Time for a tiny update :( was hoping for a much bigger update - rain stopped play :(

well we have the engine bay empty

Image

I also have the gearbox mounted to the engine - just need a couple of dry hours and then she can go in!

Well, Today started out and ended exactly the same as yesterday :(

but there was 2 1/2 hours of dryness in the middle and so this happened!

Thought this might be worth a bit of a update - only problems i encountered where I have lost my spare set of twink mounts - though i had about 5 sets over the past 3 years - i cant find one spare set, so shoved on a set of scorpio ones (hence one not fitting) - will strip them off the SS as this is having a different engine type altogether

hopefully next weekend I will get all connected up underneath with the gearbox, propshaft exhaust, fuel tank and the bushes/struts replaced

well - heres the only two you can look at from today.

Didnt get all the bits done i wanted due to parts problems - however got all engine electrics hooked up to the engine - just need the engine bay loom passing through and the electrics are done - also got partial exhaust done as well as started on the cooling system, fitted the starter motor etc - so a good few hours on the car!

a couple of pics

Well - know onto the latest and greatest updates to this project

Well - as you may be aware from my other recent post, i have had a couple of setbacks, one with the steering rack and one because of the clutch release bearing which i though was my fault for rushing. Well it turns out it wasnt! when i took the box off - the clutch release bearing fell out in a number of pieces, looks like the brand new one had a few defects

Well onto the update - as neither me or any of my 2 mates that turned up could have any luck in getting the box up to the engine in 3 hours of trying - we decided it would be quicker to tow it to a garage with a ramp - and pay to have the box fitted (one only 300 yards away) or lift the engine out. However as Im awaiting steering parts (track rod ends) it seamed quite a bad idea to tow without a A Frame. The only other option was to take the engine to the gearbox - so this is what we did

Image

Nearly cried when i saw this out agan so soon after the last time
Image

Ahh there we go - back in again - just 2 hours after the call to rip the engine out

Back into its home

And a couple shots of the rear

Big thanks go to Danny for the rack on such short notice :th:

Today - i got round there and started around 11, fitting up the standard exhaust initially whilst we get her running and MOT'd.

connected up the CPS, hooked up the battery, connected the coil upto the distributor, and the back of the head to the battery tray, and turned her over.

She turned over but wouldn't start!

so i cracked off the fuel banjo - dry as a bone - there be the problem!

so i start looking at the electrics, check for power at the boot end - there was nothing!

so checked relays - the fuel pump relay was missing, so added it in, still nothing - so i go back to my house and get the haynes manual, run back to mums an dwork through the fuel system electrics and find fuse 23, the magic (yet missing) fuse

Fit Fuse 23 - turn her over again - a cough and a splutter and it died in a pool of smoke

connected up the map sensor, and she started first turn of the key!

So heres progress - a Running Engine :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D: :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D:

but one problem!

when you touch the throttle - it stalls!

also when connected to the battery - there is a hissing from the fuel rail, no fuel is leaking but a permanent hiss like its on all the time - even when the key is out of the ignition

Any ideas?

And Today is the day she moved under her own steam!

albeit due to lack of brakes it was only six inches in revers up hill - but she moved \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ \:D/

And the cause of the running problems was correctly identified by....

Stixy and TheCrust!

Stixy identified the wrong relay causing the fuel pump to run constantly

TheCrust Identified the fuel pressure regulator was fubarred - this one was stuck open stopping it from gaining pressure to allow the revs to rise!

by god this car sounds awesome, and it still has to have the ashley fitted!

Jobs to do first though

Fit the polybushes and new struts
fit the new rear springs and shocks
bleed the brakes
tidy up the installation

will get some pictures up later on tonight
